Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is an upcoming American monster film directed by Adam Wingard. Produced by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, distributed by Godzilla vs. The sequel to Kong (2021) and the fifth film in the Monsterverse. It is the 38th film in the Godzilla franchise, the 13th film in the King Kong franchise, and the fifth Godzilla film produced entirely by an American film studio. The film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns and Fala Chen. Hall, Henry and Hotle reprise their roles from the previous film. In the film, Godzilla and Kong must unite against an undiscovered threat that threatens the Hollow Earth and the surface.

Due to the box office and streaming success of Godzilla vs. Kong during the COVID-19 pandemic, Legend announced a sequel in March 2022 and that the film will begin shooting later that year. In May 2022, it was announced that Wingard would return to Direct and Stevens was cast as the lead. Filming began on the Gold Coast, Queensland in July 2022 and wrapped in November 2022.

The gigantic creatures of the Monsterverse will make their grand return to the big screen when Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire releases on March 29, 2024. The film was originally scheduled to release on March 15, 2024, but was later delayed to April 12 before being pushed forward by two weeks. The film will now release on the weekend that both Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Bong Joon-ho's Mickey 17 abandoned.

The first official trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was released by Warner Bros. on December 3, 2023, after it was presented at the 2023 edition of CCXP. The first official look from the film introduces the film's new villain and gives us our first look at Baby Kong (following in the footsteps of Grugoo and Baby Groot).

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire villain

The trailer for The New Empire confirmed that the Titans' common enemy would most likely be the Skar King, a primate Titan similar to Kong except it stands nearly erect and has a slim build. Skar King is also hinted to possess a secret weapon similar to Godzilla's atomic heat beam.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Story Details

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire will see Godzilla and Kong team up in this go-around to fight against a deadly Titan force. The evil Scar King has stolen power from the Hollow Earth Temple to rival both Godzilla and Kong, and to keep the peace between the two worlds, the Titans must band together to stop him.

Some Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire updates showcased the new powerful ape Titan. In addition, the villain is shown to have glowing blue eyes, indicating that Scar has the same powers as King Godzilla. Godzilla is powered by blue nuclear energy which gives him the power of his nuclear breath, something that Kong lacks. Since Godzilla's power is found in the Hollow Earth Temple, it is possible that a member of Kong's species found a way and gained this power for himself. If so, this event could trigger the Titan War.
